A two day practical workshop for people who want to shoot video on DSLR Cameras, including photographers who want to shoot, edit and upload video for their journalistic, commercial, portraiture, wedding or PR work.
The workshop is very intensive, practical and hands-on, with the two days being spent shooting and editing actual footage.
The course is driven by practical exercises and so course numbers are deliberately kept small.
The course is designed around setting up shoots and getting footage during the class that is then edited by the participants. It's a results driven course, with an emphasis on preparing content for going online.
Shooting - Topics covered:
White balance, exposure, focus, shutter speed, ISO as they pertain to shooting video.
Sound recording – tips, methods and equipment for getting clean sound. Knowing when it matters and when it’s ok if it’s not clean. Using and recording atmos sound.
Shooting for the edit – eyelines, crossing the line, coverage, cutaways, non-sync wide shots, one camera shooting technique - all demonstrated through practical exercises in class.
Use of tripods, shoulder mounts, sliders and other stabilisers – when and why they matter.
Editing - Topics covered:
Editing is based on cutting the interviews and other footage that participants have shot in class. It emphasises being able to export and upload finished video (including Youtube and Vimeo) at low file sizes while maintaining good resolution.
The course also covers the creation of video-based slide shows to showcase a series of photographs.
Editing training covers:
Participants are asked to bring their own cameras on Day 1 and a laptop (Mac or PC) on Day 2.
Email us and let us know if this is a problem and we will do our best to provide one for you.
